Peaceful

After a day of ginger bread making at my daughters grade 1 class, I thought I'd paint something using turquoise!  I love that Safeway is stocking tulips at this time of year.  This painting has a rhythm that is peaceful.  I love painting simple flowers.

Confidence

http://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/krista-eaton/confidence/186851

So lately I have been very busy!   So that's the reason for the lack of fresh new blog entries!  It's a busy time for most of us.  So I decided to stick to painting what I am most confident painting.  Keep it simple.  Thanks and enjoy the special times before Christmas!

Sunshine & Autumn

Bid on this painting!
Sometimes I miss the cool autumn breezes, but today the temperature finally dropped!  I felt some cool air for the first time in months!!  Sorry, I'm not complaining but it did inspire me to paint another fall painting.  I love fall colors, your probably wondering where does she find fall leaves in the desert?  Well, I had a little help from Michael's craft store!

Hope you enjoy!  Happy painting!

Carry On

6x6" original oil painting by Krista Eaton.  Painted this today because I love painting pretty things like this!  I just wish I had more time to just sit with friends and enjoy tea.  We artists paint and after that there is a avalanche of tasks waiting for us when we are done painting.  And the days can slip by very fast!!  It's all good.

Apples & Blossoms

I used to ride my bike along the shore in a place called Blackie's Spit, near crescent beach in British Columbia, it was a park on the the ocean and wild birds lived there and the apple trees.  Around this time of year I would find apples along the trail!  Click here to bid on this painting!

Afternoon Cup

Well, I just love teacups!  I drink lots of tea.   Lately I enjoy making chai tea lattes in the afternoon.  I guess I like things to be cozy! It is back up to 100 degrees today but I am still try to reel in the fall by doing things that remind me of Fall in Canada!   What's your favorite?  Hope you enjoy!

Tea Party

I am just in love with antique teacups!  I love the delicate little painted flowers on them, and the gold highlights.  They are more challenging than most of my flower subjects but well worth it.

P.S. - In order that people may be happy in their work, the things are needed:  They must be fit for it.  They must not do too much of it.  And they must have a sense of success in it." (John Ruskin)

up close and personal

                       Sunflower
I had this old chopping block in my studio and decided to sit at my table top easel and work on something really close to me and on a material that I like.  So here is what I came up with.  I was happy
, quite happy with what I painted.  So some days it's good to work with what you have right around you in your home or studio.   Hope you enjoy!

Bliss

Bid on this painting here.
8x10" on canvas 0.5" thick painted around the edges!
Painted from flowers in my studio this afternoon!  I wanted to work on something simpler I find the simpler the better sometimes.  It's the less is more type of painting!

Painting progress stage 2

Hi again!  In this stage I try to really work on painting in the midtones.  I give my self a visual aid by set a spot of really white paint on the table cloth.  And a bit of the darkest dark on the wine bottle.  It just helps your eye gage the value or tones better.   Because there are so many different colors it takes a bit more stepping back to see what you are doing as you paint.  I'll post more on this painting soon!  Thanks for watching!
Feel free to ask me any questions you may have!   Have a good Sunday.

Step by Step: still life with fruit

Good morning or afternoon, so what I will do in this post is show you how I go about painting a still life.  First step is the blocking in, where I quickly decide where everything is going to go on the canvas.  It saves me major corrections later because I already can see what it will look like!  I have to be patient here which is hard!  I will tweak the composition here and there quickly before moving on.
That's it for now, I'll post the next step later.

Quiet Time

What can I say.. I love painting!
We paint because we have too.  It's the way runners have to run!  I love things that are beautiful and when I paint them it just simply makes me happy.
Hope you have a wonderful day!  Happy painting.

Cup of Sunshine

I am having fun with the coffee mug / floral theme.  I truly think these are the cutest arrangements.
I start each morning with a coffee or two, sometimes one in the afternoon!  I fuels me for the painting.

Cup of Daisies

So I decided to mix my two favorite things together in this painting the idea of a nice warm cup of coffee and flowers!
Happy place!   Hope you enjoy!

Gratitude

So I'm back!  Had a wonderful time in Vancouver with friends and family!
I am so glad I could get a chance to be creative today, amidst the piles of laundry .  Getting back from trips is a lot more work than I remember but well worth it.
Hope you are painting up a storm in your studio or kitchen or living room!

Pansies on Denim

One of my favorite things about painting is the surprise you get when you paint something you really, really like!  This painting is a larger scale (12x12). So seeing the flowers bigger gave me even more of a good feeling.  I just was excited, I will be painting more in this size.  Some times bigger can be better.

Summertime Blooms

Today was one of those days I felt like painting my sunflowers.  In this Arizona heat you get sluggish!  I get going and then I forget how hot it is, I also forget my laundry.  Well, at least for a brief moment.
Anyhow , we paint what we love and sometimes it turns out great and that's time we'll spent.
Thanks for looking!

Sunflowers in Blue & White Vase

So the other day I received a email from an old client of mine and she was telling me how much she was still enjoying the paintings she had collected of mine.  In it she reminded me of one of the painting that had a Japanese vase.  So I remembered how much I loved that vase and just was inspired to paint another!  I hope you have had a good day painting today!   I love being able to share with all of you through this blog.  I look forward to hearing from you.  Thanks for looking!

Pansies III

Well today was good, took the kids to ride our scooters and then after lunch painted the next in the series of pansies.
I had fun working with the bright colors in these fine pansies.  I hope to paint more but for now I think that's all!
Thanks for looking!

Pansies & a new iPhone app

So I was asked recently why I don't blog much and I said I didn't have a way to upload my photos through my iPhone!  And today I finally found a free blogger app.  Pardon my tech UN savvyness I didn't know it could be this easy!  So know I have know excuse, well two kids under 6 still is my backup excuse.  Anyhow,  these pansies were fun to paint I can't say that everyday is as inspiring as the last, but this daily paint work was great!
I hope you paint for the joy of the paint the relaxation.  Skills come later.
Have fun, keep painting!

Something Different

So here I am again!  It's  been a long time since I got my act together and blogged.  So I have been thinking of painting birdhouses and birds for a while just for a change and finally did.  I am really glad I did.  I love birds.  We have so many birds here in our backyard in AZ it is awsome!

Hope you enjoy! Cheers

Lemons & Daisies

So it has been a while since my last blog, but that is life with a 2 and 6 year old!  Time is very limited so I use it to paint when I have it kid free.
So I have painted another of my favorite new setups and that is lay it all on the table and see what happens kind of thing, setup.  It is already loose so when I go to paint it I don't have to work very hard.  I enjoy the mystery in the nagative space and the various shadows.

I hope you enjoy!

Painted this today from a set up in my studio!  I love picking out the shapes mixing up the paint and just going for it!  It is always such a good time!  I love daily painting it keeps the drawing in my hands so it becomes more like walking to me of breathing.

Roses

Theres just always something so beautiful about roses!  I used to go to the rose gardens in Stanley Park Vancouver B.C. during the summer every year to take in the beauty.  These, I just bought at Safeway, I know kind of anti-climatic.. never the less still beautiful!  And a painting is always more interesting.

Spring Has Sprung

So today I stopped by the local Safeway and picked up these Daffodils.  I put them in this vase I bought from Michaels.  I love the Daffodils because they remind me of Springtime before I moved to the desert!  They make me happy, and I am in love with this little vase.   I had fun as always painting these little beauties.   Hope you enjoy them too.

P.S.  You can get a great yellow shadow color with a mix of cad. yellow lemon+Viridian green+transred oxide.

Pears & Astros

I sometimes paint best when I'm exhausted.  Being a mom of two children under the age of 6, I mostly paint when I'm tired.   One thing that I remember hearing from a great Canadian painter was "remember you can still paint a great painting even when your tired".  So when I am tired I have no excuses!!  The other thing is I get energized by paint!  I love the colors, the brush strokes carry me along until I am finished.
I did paint this in a pure state of super tiredness!! But I think it came out OK. or great even.

Forever

One of the best things about being an artist is that your art not only brings you joy, but brings joy to others.  Today I painted some tulips I bought at Safeway.  I put them in the sunlight and they opened up and looked so pretty.  I called them "forever" because they make me think of something that lasts.
A feeling of beauty and joy.

Together

I went to Crate and Barrel last week and bought some new things to paint.  I like the way silver or any shiny thing looks when painted.  I kind of went over the top in this painting with challenges.  Next painting I will focus on one, not all of my new things to paint!
On another note, I am in the Northern Trust Bank in Scottsdale AZ, with Celebrating 30 yrs. Scottsdale Artists' School Exhibit.  My painting made the show invite brochure that was mailed out!
So lots of exciting things are happening.

Morning Sunshine

So I went to Costco yesterday and I picked up some irises to piant.  I normally set them up in my studio so I have a  good steady light source and everything.  That would be the easy thing for me to do... Instead  I saw the morning light shinning through the kitchen window and I thought why not.  So instead of bringing the flowers to the easel I brought the easel over to where I had the flowers. I set them there so they would open up, instead I ended up painting them where they looked best.  I think that is one of the great things about art you get inspiration from all around you.  It's rewarding everytime  I push paint around I have fun.

Gerber Daisies & Apple "Sunny Afternoon"

I went to Costco with the kids this morning and there among the food poor flowers that had been obviously fed food coloring was a beautiful bundle of white Gebers Daisies.  Thanks goodness or I would have had to make a trip to Trader Joe's.  I painted them with the daylight sunshine coming in through the studio window.  There were actual clouds in the sky so I had the excitment of changing shadows, and light and all that fun stuff.  If  I have got you interested enough go check it out on Facebook.  ( I can upload from my phone) that's the secret.  Hope you like it!

Yellow

I picked up these daisies from Safeway this weekend.  I painted them because I feel that they a very cheerful and during these days of transition from winter to spring you need that.  I had lots of fun, I painted a close-up one as well you can see it in my daily paint works gallery.
