Purple & White Irises

So here are the keys players in this painting!  Certainly wasn't the odorless turpinoid! I'm on vacation in Sedona AZ.
I love using these transparent colors!  Painted directly onto my white gesso surface they have a glow to them that you just can't mix.  So that is my little tip for today.

Summers Friend

I have been thinking of painting a hummingbird for so long it's been driving me crazy!! I love watching them eat and play in my backyard.  They tease each other and chase larger birds!  This little guy makes me happy!  Hopefully I don't sound too crazy actually writing this.
Have a great day!

Friendly Faces

There is a block in below!  I started by under painting the whole board with viridian green and transparent red oxide.  Then I used a white with a touch of transparent yellow oxide, and touches of viridian and purple lake to block in the whites.  I try to make warm whites!  It's hard you have to keep comparing with the surrounding colors!  It's a balancing act this painting game.  Anyhow as always I mean to take more pictures to show the process.  Hope you have a great weekend!

Sunflowers & Stock

During these busy summer days I enjoy a little me time painting at the kitchen counter easel!  With kids constantly asking for snacks, and things to build, or do all day it's a good break to paint my little daily painting!  Don't get me wrong I wouldn't have it any other way.  Summertime is special.
Hope your are having a great summer!  Happy painting!

Time Well Spent

Bid on painting here!
Decided to take on the "orchid challenge", something I made up... there isn't really an orchid challenge.
Anyhow, I was given this beautiful orchid for Mothers Day and I look at it and I kept telling myself to paint it and now that I have, I am full of ideas on how I want to capture it in a painting.  I am playing with the abstract in the background, to offset the structured Orchid.  I really quite enjoy this process and will most likely try it out with my other favorite flowers.  Hope you enjoy, and happy painting!

Blooming Bells

I am not sure what these are?  They look like blue bells... I hope they are.  They were in with a bouquet I bought from TJ's , and I really liked them a lot so I painted just the stem.  Plus I love how the green vase picks up light!  Oh, how I love flowers.  Hope you enjoy this snippet
