Did this daisy sketch while the kiddos were at school.  This morning was busy in the studio!  Now a week of kids off school for fall break.  Better set my alarm clock to get some time to paint before they wake up.

Lily of the valley

"Red is the rose that in yonder garden grows Fair is the lily of the valley
Clear is the water that flows from the Boyne But my love is fairer than any.
This is a classic Irish song that's pretty and it reminds me of the painting!  Happy Painting!

Birds of a Feather

http://kristaeaton.com/products/birdsofafeather
I believe these are fairy finches.. I just can't get over how cute they are.  I have been painting birds even though I am primarily known for painting flowers and I am hooked!  They are like flowers with wings.  Thanks for looking!

Goldfinch & Pine

The goldfinch is such a beauty! I feel birds are flowers with wings.:).  I am straying from my usual florals these days because it's been so busy with kids in school and starting sports and music I feel my head spinning!  So a simple bird takes me out of the stress and into a world of simplicity.  I hope you have a great time in your studio!  Happy Painting

P.S.  The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.

Robin in the Rain

So it was a rare, rainy day in Scottsdale today.  And as I sat and thought about what I was going to paint suddenly a robin came to mind!  Nothing to deep..
But then I thought about all the rainy days I looked out my window in Vancouver, Canada where rain is as common as Sunshine is here, I thought wow so many memories.  Robins in my yard pulling up worms in the rain!  Funny but I guess sometimes birds remind us of places or even people.
P.S.
Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.

Peonies

Well it's the last day before school gets out for summer!  Oh boy,  I'm so glad.  No more rushing out early in the morning
I'll be glad to spend time painting, and playing with my kids for a change.  So here are some peonies I found at TraderJoe's what a welcome site that was to me!  They used to grow in my garden not here in AZ though.  So I paint them and they always remind my of my old garden in Canada.   Flowers are apart of our memories I feel everyone could tell me a story like mine.  Hope you have a great weekend!

Daffodils on Phthalo Background

This painting started with a Phthalo Tourquoise wash.  It was a bit of an experiment but I liked how it works with the warmer insides of the daffodils.  It was fun and ill try it with other colors soon.

P.S.

Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.

Sunflowers & Oranges

Today I wasn't feeling so great, but I had bought these sunflowers and I finally had to get up and paint them.  I love painting sunflowers so much oranges on the other hand I haven't practiced as much.
It's good to try new subjects to stretch yourself.  Painting still life helps you learn to see color.
Just keep painting.. Embrace the Journey!
Hope you have a great Mother's Day!

Forever in my Heart

These are roses from my garden here in Arizona!  But my memories go back to places when I was young like my mothers roses in her garden.  Or the Rose gardens in Stanley Park in Vancouver in July / Aug.  Roses are I think one of the most dramatic of the flowers and I will keep painting them till I can express them accurately!
Hope you enjoy!

Lemons & Daisies

SOLD
Painted this from a real life setup in my studio last night.  I really enjoy setting the flowers on the table without the case in the still life.  I will be working in a series of these because I find them fun and exiting to paint.  I hope this week is a super week of successful painting for all my painting friends and if not maybe a great time "learning" through painting.
P.S.
I dream of painting and then I paint my dream.

Daffodils

8"x8" oil on linen board
There is something just joyful about springtime.  I remember the cool fresh air when I would be out in the garden in Canada working away to clean up the winter debri.  It was such a reward to see my tulips and daffodils sprouting out of the dark wet soil.  I have learned to appreciate it more now that I live in the desert!  We have a different type of beauty here.  Well I hope you find joy in whatever you paint today!  Happy Painting😊
PS ~ The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.

Blue bird on Magnolia Branch

Blue Bird on Magnolia Branch
8"x8" oil on 0.5" cradled wood panel

The Eastern Blue Bird.  I painted this from a photo this bird is sitting on a blooming magnolia branch.  I tried to keep the background loose so as to not take attention away from our bird friend.
hope you enjoy!
